Middle Years Programme
Middle Years Programme
An international curriculum for 14 to 16 year olds that teaches your child to think, research, and communicate before the Diploma Programme.

What is MYP?
A curriculum that teaches your child how to think
MYP is a programme framework for students aged 14 to 16. Súkromné gymnázium Česká is currently a Candidate School for MYP and is pursuing authorization. Students investigate real questions, connect ideas across subjects, and build the skills they will need for university and work.
Read the official MYP curriculum ↗Eight subjects, connected
Your child studies language, humanities, sciences, maths, arts, and design. Teachers plan units together so a history lesson on industrialisation can link to a science lesson on energy.
Built around real questions
Every unit starts with a question that matters. How do we share the planet? What is fair? Your child uses what they learn to answer it.
Skills are taught deliberately
Thinking, communication, research, self-management, and collaboration are built into every lesson. Your child learns how to learn.
A personal project of their own
In the final year, your child chooses, plans, and completes an extended project. It could be a short film, a prototype, or a community event. They document the process and reflect on what they learned.
Approaches to learning
Five skill families, taught on purpose
ATL skills are woven into every unit rather than taught as a separate subject, so students learn how to learn.
Critical, creative, and transfer thinking across problems and subjects.
Reading, writing, and speaking for different audiences and purposes.
Collaboration, listening, and resolving differences in a group.
Organisation, reflection, and managing effort and emotion.
Forming questions, finding sources, and using evidence responsibly.
Beyond lessons
A personal project and real community service
The MYP reaches beyond the classroom. Your child will complete a self-chosen project and take part in sustained service, both of which build independence and responsibility.
The Personal Project
In the final MYP year, your child chooses a topic they care about and completes an extended project. It could be a short film, a working prototype, a community event, or a piece of writing. They plan the work, carry it out, and reflect on the process. For many students, this is the first time they take full ownership of a long-term piece of work.
Service as action
Your child takes part in sustained service to the school or wider community. The commitment runs across the year and meets a real need. They reflect on what they did and what it taught them.

After MYP
The MYP flows into the Diploma Programme
The IB Diploma Programme (ages 16 to 19) is the direct path to university entrance worldwide. The habits your child builds in MYP (independent research, time management, connecting ideas across subjects) are exactly what IB DP demands. Moving from MYP to IB DP at Česká means staying in the same school with teachers who already know your child.
