What we did

A group of DP students organised and ran a 5 km charity run around the school grounds and the nearby park, with every participant gathering pledges in advance. We mapped the route, arranged water stations, recruited volunteer marshals, and promoted the event across the school. On the day, over forty students, teachers, and parents took part, and we raised €175 for UNICEF's education programmes in developing countries.

Reflection

The hardest part was not the running. It was the logistics. We underestimated how long it would take to secure permissions and confirm the route, and we learned to build in slack time and assign clear responsibilities early (LO3). Coordinating marshals and timing on the day showed how much a project depends on people communicating well under mild pressure (LO5).

Seeing a concrete figure raised for a cause beyond our own school made the abstract idea of "service" feel real. We would run it again, earlier in the year, and with a bigger pledge drive.
